Tame Impala have released a new remix of “waves”, a highlight off Miguel’s latest album, Wildheart. Though both artists seem to inhabit different musical spaces, the single in question easily bridges this gap.
On its own, the track sounds like it was literally recorded inside some kind of trippy, aquatic-like studio, its melodies a dreamy swirl of lust and yearning. In the hands of Kevin Parker and the rest of his Aussie crew, the track’s psych rock elements are elevated and stretched out into the ether to form something not unlike much of the material found on Tame Impala’s stellar Currents. Perhaps these two should work together more often?

Tame Impala’s “waves” reworking is taken from Rogue Waves, a collection of “waves” remixes due out tomorrow via ByStorm/RCA. It also features contributions from Travi$ Scott, Kacey Musgraves, and RAC.
This isn’t the first time Tame Impala’s music has crossed over into the R&B world; Rihanna recently covered the band’s “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” for Anti.
